afford 是「負擔得起」，幾乎一定跟 can／could 連用。後面直接接受詞或不定詞，不加介系詞。
常見錯誤
- afford 很少用在肯定的簡單句；正常是 can afford／can't afford。
- afford to do 或 afford + 名詞，不能寫 afford for。
- can't afford to 也用在抽象的事：We can't afford to lose him（我們承受不起失去他）。
