- 1Welcome to the xiangqi square. Chinese chess is one of the most played board games in the world.歡迎來到象棋廣場。象棋是世界上最多人下的棋類之一。

A Board With a River有一條河的棋盤
Chinese chess, or xiangqi, is played on the lines of a grid rather than inside the squares, like Go.象棋跟圍棋一樣下在格線的交點上，而不是格子裡面。
Across the middle runs a gap called the river. Some pieces may cross it and some may not, which shapes the whole game.棋盤中間橫著一道空白，叫做「河界」。有些棋子過得去，有些過不去，這決定了整盤棋的走法。
At each end is a three by three box called the palace. The general and his two advisors can never leave it.兩端各有一個三乘三的方框，叫做「九宮」。將帥和兩個士永遠不能離開。

The Pieces That Make It Different讓它與眾不同的棋子
- The cannon炮
- It moves like a chariot in straight lines, but to capture it must jump over exactly one piece — any piece, yours or the opponent's. Nothing in Western chess works like this.它像車一樣走直線，但要吃子時必須隔著剛好一個棋子跳過去——任何棋子都行，自己的或對方的。西洋棋裡沒有任何棋子是這樣。

- The pieces are flat discs with characters written on them, so the two sides use different words for the same piece — one general is 將 and the other is 帥.棋子是寫著字的扁圓片，所以兩方同一種棋用不同的字——一邊的將軍是「將」，另一邊是「帥」。
- Because the pieces are discs, a set is cheap and easy to carry, which is one reason the game is played on street corners everywhere.因為棋子是圓片，一副棋便宜又好帶，這是它在各地街頭巷尾都有人下的原因之一。
