Keep the Ball in the Air別讓球落地
Volleyball is played by two teams of six, separated by a high net. The ball must never touch the floor on your side.排球由兩隊各六人進行，中間隔著一張高高的球網。球絕對不能碰到自己這一側的地板。
Each team may touch the ball three times before sending it over the net, and the same player cannot touch it twice in a row.每一隊在把球送過網之前最多可以碰三次球，而且同一個人不能連續碰兩次。
Those three touches usually follow a pattern: dig, set, spike. One player receives the ball, a second lifts it high, and a third jumps and hits it down hard.這三次觸球通常有固定的模式：接球、舉球、扣球。一個人接起球，第二個人把球高高托起，第三個人跳起來用力往下打。
The game was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan in Massachusetts, four years after basketball and only a few kilometres away. He wanted something gentler than basketball for older players.排球是 1895 年由威廉・摩根在美國麻州發明的，比籃球晚四年，發明地點只相距幾公里。他想要一種比籃球溫和一點、適合年紀較長的人玩的運動。
The Basic Rules基本規則
- Three touches三次觸球
- A team may touch the ball at most three times before it must cross the net. A block at the net does not count as one of the three.球過網前，一隊最多碰三次。網前的攔網不算在這三次裡面。
- 25 points a set一局 25 分
- The first team to 25 points wins the set, leading by two. A match is best of five sets, but the fifth set is only to 15.先拿到 25 分且領先兩分的一隊贏得該局。一場比賽五局三勝，但第五局只打到 15 分。
- Every rally scores每球得分
- Both teams can score on every rally, no matter who served. Before 1999 only the serving team could score, and matches ran much longer.不論發球方是誰，每一球雙方都可能得分。1999 年以前只有發球方能得分，比賽時間長得多。
- Rotation輪轉
- When a team wins the serve back, all six players rotate one position clockwise. That is why everyone has to learn every position.球隊搶回發球權時，六個人一起順時針輪轉一個位置。這就是為什麼每個人都必須學會每一個位置。
- The libero自由球員
- One defensive specialist wears a different-coloured shirt. The libero plays only at the back and may not spike or serve.有一位防守專家會穿不同顏色的球衣。自由球員只在後排，不能扣球也不能發球。

沙灘排球只有兩個人，卻要守一整片場地，所以體力消耗比室內排球大得多。它 1996 年成為奧運項目。

- Morgan first called the game mintonette. Someone watching said the players were volleying the ball, and the new name stuck.摩根一開始把這個遊戲叫做 mintonette。有位觀眾說球員是在「截擊」（volley）球，新名字就這樣留下來了。
- A strong spike can travel at more than 100 kilometres per hour, and the blocker has about a third of a second to react.強力扣球時速可以超過 100 公里，攔網的人大約只有三分之一秒可以反應。
- Volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1964, at the Tokyo Games.排球在 1964 年東京奧運成為奧運項目。
