比較級與最高級Comparatives and Superlatives

比較級：A + be + 比較級 + than + B

中文說「哥哥比我高」，「比」放在前面，形容詞不用變。英文反過來：形容詞要變成比較級（taller），後面再接 than + 被比的對象。短的形容詞加 -er，長的（大多是兩個音節以上）在前面加 more。

• My brother is taller than me.我哥哥比我高。

• The MRT is faster than the bus.捷運比公車快。

• Math is more difficult than English for me.對我來說數學比英文難。

最高級：the + 最高級 + in / of

三個以上比，選出「最……」的那一個，用最高級：短的加 -est，長的前面加 most，前面通常要加 the。後面說範圍時，接地方、團體用 in（in my class、in Taiwan），接一群同類的東西或數字用 of（of the three、of all）。

• Jason is the tallest boy in our class.Jason 是我們班最高的男生。

• Taipei 101 is the most famous building in Taiwan.台北 101 是台灣最有名的建築。

• This is the cheapest of the three bags.這是三個包包裡最便宜的。

比較級、最高級怎麼變

重複字尾的常見字：big、hot、fat、thin、sad、wet。far 的比較級是 farther，最高級是 farthest。

as + 原級 + as：「跟……一樣」

兩邊一樣時，用 as + 形容詞原級 + as，中間的形容詞不能變成比較級。否定 not as … as 是「沒有……那麼……」，意思跟比較級反過來說一樣。

• Lisa is as tall as her mother.Lisa 跟她媽媽一樣高。

• This phone is not as expensive as that one.這支手機沒有那支貴。

• I can run as fast as my dad.我可以跑得跟我爸一樣快。

常見錯誤

• ✗My brother is more tall than me.
  ✓My brother is taller than me.短的形容詞直接加 -er，不能再加 more。
• ✗This book is more better than that one.
  ✓This book is better than that one.better 本身就是比較級，前面不能再加 more。
• ✗Jason is tallest boy in our class.
  ✓Jason is the tallest boy in our class.最高級前面通常要加 the。
• ✗My dog is biger than your dog.
  ✓My dog is bigger than your dog.big 是短母音加一個子音，要重複 g 再加 -er。
• ✗Lisa is as taller as her mother.
  ✓Lisa is as tall as her mother.as … as 中間用原級，不用比較級。
