My Week Without Sugar
by Ivy Chen · Oct 2026
Monday, March 3. Today I started a : one week with no sweet drinks and no candy. In health class, Mr. Wang put a cup of tea on his desk. Next to it, he put a pile of sugar. There were fourteen pieces! I was shocked. I usually drink one cup every day.
Tuesday, March 4. This was the hardest day. At four o'clock, my friends bought tea, and I only had plain water. I had a , and I was in a bad all afternoon. I thought about chocolate in math class and cake in English class. My best friend Joy laughed at me. "You'll give up tomorrow," she said.
Thursday, March 6. Something strange happened today. I didn't feel tired in my afternoon classes. Usually I feel tired around two o'clock, but today my head was clear, and I answered three questions in science class. Maybe sugar gives me quick energy, but then it takes the energy away again.
Saturday, March 8. Grandma made sweet potato soup for lunch. Can I eat it? I asked Mom. She said, "Sure. Sweet potatoes and fruit are fine. Their sugar is different, and they also have and other good things for your body." I ate two bowls.
Sunday, March 9. The week is over, and I did it! My skin looks a little better, and I sleep better at night. Will I give up tea for the rest of my life? No way. But I'm going to order it with less sugar, and only once a week. I can really keep this plan. And guess what? Joy will try the challenge next week!
