Meet a Little League Pitcher

Baseball is one of the most loved sports in Taiwan, and Taiwan's young players are famous around the world. This month, our reporter talked with Tony Lee, a fourteen-year-old pitcher on our school team. Last summer, his team almost became national . They finished second.

Reporter: When did you start playing baseball? Tony: When I was seven. My grandpa loved baseball, and he took me to a game in Taichung. I remember the noise of the crowd and the smell of grilled corn. After that game, I wanted to be a pitcher.

Reporter: What does a usual day look like for you? Tony: I get up at five thirty and run for half an hour. After school, our team practices from four to seven. Then I go home, eat a big dinner, and do my homework. It's tiring, but I enjoy it.

Reporter: How do you keep your arm healthy? Tony: My coach counts my pitches in every game, and I never throw too many. I also stretch before and after practice. A lot of young players hurt their arms because they throw too much. An can end your dream.

Reporter: What is your dream? Tony: To play for Taiwan one day. But first, I need to pass my math test next week! My teacher always says, "Baseball players need good grades too."

Reporter: Any advice for young players? Tony: Enjoy the game. Winning feels great, but matters more.
