Hi Amy, How are you? I'm writing to you from Penghu! My family has been here for four days, and we are flying back to Taipei tomorrow. You have never been to Penghu, have you? Let me tell you about it.
Penghu is a group of small islands in the Taiwan Strait. The wind here is very strong, especially in winter, so the people built low stone walls around their fields. They are made of coral and stone, and some of them are very . On our second day, we rode bikes along the coast. The was amazing: blue sea, white sand, and almost no cars. My little brother wanted to know how people lived here a hundred years ago, so we visited an old village. Some of the houses still there, and a few families still live in them.
The food was great, too. We ate fresh fish, and I tried a cactus ice cream. It was pink and sweet! I didn't expect it to taste so good.
The best part was the fireworks festival. It has become a summer here. Every year, it thousands of visitors to the islands. We sat on the beach and watched the sky turn red, gold, and green. I was so that I forgot to take pictures.
You would really love this place. Maybe our families can come here together next summer. I'll bring you some peanut candy, a famous local snack. Do you know when your summer vacation starts? Write back and let me know! Your friend, Mei
