An Egg at Twelve

by Hung Mei · Oct 2026

Today is the Boat . It is hot and sunny. My family goes to the river. Many people stand by the river. The boats are long and fast. "Go, go, go!" we say.

At twelve, my father puts an egg on a stone. It falls. He tries and tries, but his egg does not stand. My sister Ruby tries one time. Her egg stands! My father laughs.

We eat rice by the river. Ruby is proud. "I can teach you," she says to my father.
