My First Week of High School
by Chang Ya-chen · Oct 2026
Monday, September 1 I couldn't sleep last night. I kept wondering whether I would make any friends. None of my junior high classmates came to this school, so I walked into a room full of strangers. During the break, everyone seemed to know somebody except me. I to read my timetable for ten minutes.
Wednesday, September 3 Classes are much harder than I expected. In physics, the teacher spoke so fast that I couldn't keep up with my notes. In junior high I was one of the top students, but here I am just average. To be honest, it hurts my pride a little. Mom said that everyone needs time to to a new environment, and that grades in the first month don't mean much. I hope she is right.
Friday, September 5 Something good finally happened. Today we had club fair, and I stopped at the table for the astronomy club. A girl named Yi-hsuan was there, and it turned out that she was also from Kaohsiung. We talked for almost an hour about stars, music, and how strange it feels to live in a dormitory. I joined the club, and so did she.
Sunday, September 7 Looking back on this week, I notice that most of my worries came from my own . Nobody judged me for being quiet, and the teachers are actually very . I still don't know whether I will do well in physics, but I have decided to ask questions instead of pretending to understand. Maybe being for a while isn't so bad. It gives me room to grow. The from junior high has been hard, but I think I am starting to find my place. Next week, I'm going to be braver and more patient with myself.
