AI and Homework: Two Views

In the last few years, AI chat tools have become part of many students' lives. You can type a question, and an answer appears in a few seconds. Should students use AI for their homework? We asked two ninth graders who with each other.

Ethan Wu: "I have used AI for about a year, and it has helped me a lot. When I don't understand a math problem, I ask the AI to explain it step by step. It never gets tired, and it never laughs at my questions. My English has gotten better, too, because the AI fixes my mistakes and tells me the reasons. Of course, I don't let it do my homework for me. I use it like a teacher who is always awake. Calculators were once seen as bad for students, but now they are used in every classroom. AI is just the next tool, and we should learn to use it well."

Lisa Kao: "I see a problem. Many students in my class have copied whole answers from AI. Their homework looks perfect, but they can't answer the same questions on a test. Homework is given to us for a . We need to practice, make mistakes and think hard. Real grow this way. Also, AI is not always right. It has given me wrong facts more than once. Students who trust it too much may never find the mistakes, because the wrong answers often sound . In my opinion, we should finish our homework on our own first, and use AI only to check our work."

Both students agree on one thing: AI is a tool, and a tool can be used in good ways or bad ways. The is ours. Which side are you on?
